Debris removal is a large and growing portion of our annual cost.

The space that would be required in the truck for cardboard was determined to be excessive and these trucks are designed for household debris. Subsequently, we developed an alternative plan for the card board pick and removal. For over 25 years the acceptable ways for picking up cardboard has been for the resident to breakdown the boxes and tie them together for ease of pick up and to minimize the cube space in the haul away vehicle. Unfortunately, we have allowed this to go unaddressed over the last several years and simply picked up cardboard in any way the resident put it out. We are offering two methods for cardboard removal. Maintenance will pick up flat and tied cardboard on the first Monday of each month and residents can take cardboard to the maintenance yard on the prescribed days and set times (please review the Trash Calendar for the days and times). All cardboard is to be broken down flat and tied together for space savings and ease of handling. Cardboard that is not flat and tied will not be picked by the pickup team on the first Monday. Cardboard policy allows for thin cardboard such as small boxes, I,e. cereal boxes, can be broken down and placed in household trash bags for curb service. pickup or drop off cardboard is defined as corrugated cardboard i.e. shipping or packing boxes .

The following are suggested descriptions to try to help those that might not be sure.

Household Trash

Everyday waste from your home, including food scraps, food wrappers, diapers, hygiene products, plastic bags, and paper products. This is the typical small, routine trash generated daily.

Household Cardboard

Thin, smooth cardboard, such as cereal boxes, tissue boxes, and shoe boxes. These are usually made from a single layer of material and are primarily used for packaging lightweight items. Household cardboard can go in your regular bagged trash.

Heavier Cardboard

Sturdier, thicker cardboard like shipping boxes or moving boxes, designed for strength and durability. Examples include Amazon or Chewy boxes and large moving boxes. These need to be broken down and must be placed out for cardboard pickup. Alternatively, they can be dropped off at the maintenance barn on Wednesdays and Saturdays between 8:00 AM and Noon.

Heavy Haul

Large, bulky, or heavy items that don’t fit into regular trash collection. These may require special handling. Examples include furniture, appliances, and scrap metal (like old TVs or metal desks). Note: Tires, batteries, and paint are not accepted.
